Autism & Sensory Impairment Care across Essex

We offer a range of flexible and bespoke supported living and care services for residents with autism and sensory impairments.

Around 15,000 adults in Essex are thought to have autism. When you consider that it is not only those people that are affected but their loved ones and people who care for them too, it becomes a huge number of people who need support with autism, whether they are directly affected or not. We understand the difficulties that come with living with autism and offer bespoke care plans to meet the broad range of needs for adults aged 18-65.

What Is Autism?

Autism is a lifelong, developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people, and how they experience the world around them. Many people on the autism spectrum have difficulty processing everyday sensory information. Any of the senses may be over, or under-sensitive, or both, at different times. These sensory differences can affect behaviour, and can have a profound effect on a person’s life.

Around 700,000 people in the UK are on the autism spectrum and 15,000 adults in Essex. Together with their families, they make up around 2.8 million people in the country whose lives are touched by autism every day.

How We Can Help

Butterfly’s understand that autism is only a part of what makes a person and that everybody has very different needs. If we can help manage the difficulties that people with autism have and support them with the tasks they struggle with, that will give them the opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest.

Our outstanding team of healthcare professionals have an excellent track record of providing detailed, high-quality support and enablement for people with autism and sensory impairment. We offer flexible and bespoke care services to meet a variety of needs.

Professional Autism Care and Support

At Butterfly’s we offer a range of care services for people with autism in Essex. These include:

This is a great option for people with autism who can live independently but require assistance with daily tasks. We will assess the needs and wants of each individual client and their families and create a bespoke care package which will be carried out by our professionally trained and experienced carers.

A Butterfly’s domiciliary carer can assist with anything from cleaning and making a cup of tea to personal care and medication administration. Our care packages are flexible and affordable, ranging from 15 minutes a day up to 24 hours.

If you care for a loved one, we know it can be incredibly tiring and that everyone needs a break from time to time. We want you to feel safe in the knowledge that the care your loved one receives when you’re not there will be second to none. Our autism carers look after their clients in the same way that they would care for their own family members.

Supported living is an ideal middle ground when your loved one needs more care than a domiciliary carer can offer but does not require a care home. We offer a range of supported living accommodation, designed to support autistic people who cannot manage on their own. We want to give them the independence they want along with as much support as they need from our fully trained carers.

As with all our care packages, each and every client will be assessed on an individual basis and a bespoke plan will be developed based on the severity of their autism. Supported living can either be based on a single occupancy or shared accommodation depending on the preferences of the individual. We currently have supported living accommodation located at our Braintree and Colchester sites.

Butterfly’s have four care homes where we can support people with autism. These are located at our four sites in Colchester, Braintree, Walton-on-the-Naze and Alresford. This provides a continuity of care which may be an important consideration for people whose needs are increasing over time. All our care homes are welcoming, homely settings providing excellent care to all of our service users.

Why choose Butterfly’s as your care provider?

We are incredibly proud of the level of care we offer from our highly professional, family run care group. Since 2004 we have been caring for, getting to know and learning from our clients. We offer:

  • A team of fully trained, highly qualified carers.

  • Continuity of care from our local sites and by never using agency carers. We know how important it is to see a friendly, familiar face!

  • An online portal to allow families to feel part of their loved one’s care and view notes.

  • The freedom to talk to us and give us feedback. We value any suggestions that will improve our care packages even further.
